ESC Pride (2017)

ESC Pride (2017)

ESC's Pride Zine was created in June 2017 in response to a few different things:
1. As a way of expressing our own feelings in relation to being LGBTQIA+
2. As a way of opening up to other contributors, giving them a space to share their feelings, responses, and reflections

Postal ESC - Volume 2 (2015)

Postal ESC Volume 2 was the second installment of our collaborative mail art zine. We sent out a number of postcards to selected artists and writer. Each postcard returned to us via the mail and retains the marks and indentations it received along its route to us. Some postcards have been mailed twice as they were collaborative efforts.

Photo ESC - Abroad (2013)

Photo ESC - Abroad (2013)

Photo ESC - Abroad (2013)

For PhotoIreland Festival 2013, ESC are launched an exhibition of photography as well as a limited edition zine to coincide with the launch. Abroad is centred on work by Irish photographers outside
the island of Ireland, bringing their work home for this evaluation of Irish photography.

The intention of Abroad is an attempt to answer questions raised by the wider themes of the PhotoIreland Festival. Where does photography in Ireland find itself? Where are the Irish, what are they seeing, and what does our photography reflect back to us? Abroad explores bleak wastelands, lush forests, the foreign shores of interior psychology, and clinically-empty hotel rooms. Such a wide variation of interpretation, time and place reveal the different ways in which the eyes of the Irish view the outside world – which, in many cases, echo the people and ambience of this island nation.

The exhibition was curated by ESC Zine and Eight Gallery.

ESC 3 - Theme (2011)

ESC 3 is the first of our zines that we opened up for outside contributions. The zine and its design became very slicked-up compared to the first issue, and more of us (instead of just one) got the hang of InDesign. It features illustration, poetry, speculative fiction and photography.

ESC Zine 2 - Disappear Here

The theme Disappear Here tied into our logo of the ostrich with its head in the sand (a myth about the bird’s habits) linked into the struggles/development of our own creative practices in post-recession Dublin. ESC Zine 2 contents include photography, drawing and literary works.

ESC Zine 1 (2011)

The first ever issue of ESC Zine consisted of many weeks of discussion and preparation around the art of zine making and how art and literary works could create a unique dialogue. The end result from our shared learning and design are these 16 pages.
